On my long list of to-do's is fixing up the study room of the girls (before they graduate from high school--haha). I haven't really paid attention to it in the past year, so things are dumped there with regularity that it is now a stockroom of sorts.
I can't wait to clear it out and install a world map mural on the long wall.
The neighbor of my friend Stacey has five framed poster-size world maps hanging in her home office wall, one for each member of the family. They keep track of the countries each family member has visited with colored push pins. The parents had tons of pins on their maps, and the kids had quite a number too, considering they were still very young. I thought that was such a neat idea that I've been wanting to duplicate it even since I saw it--that is, until I saw this giant world map! I bought one from here. It's just waiting to be installed. In a smaller wall, I'll hang a map of the Philippines. I'll also put pushpins on all the places the kids have visited. Let me see, we've brought them to Batangas, Baguio, Vigan, Laoag, Pagudpud, Laguna, Quezon, Legaspi City, Donsol, Bicol, Bohol, Palawan, Dumaguete. Hey, that's quite a lot too!
Anyway, I bought blackboard paint from Home Depot on my last trip to the States, and also some magnetic primer. I can make a magnetic chalkboard wall! The paint is still coming by slow boat... I didn't want to risk bringing it in my suitcase on the plane but didn't want it to get confiscated at the airport, just in case!
I can do something like in front of their desk-- a chalkboard with a magnetic primer.
I also have some vintage frames which I can convert into chalkboards. Okay, maybe not for this study room, but for my kitchen!
Maybe one whole wall of chalkboard paint will be nice. I love it already! Now I think I bought too little paint!
One short wall will be dedicated to framed "art"--the kids' certificates of recognition from previous years, our diplomas and other continuing education certificates I unearth while I'm organizing.
I'm excited to start! What else should I add to make it a functional but fun study room?

Have been looking for a great map to hang in my study room/den too. Ikea used to have a nice one but they discontinued it. Will have to check out your source. Thanks Vicki!
I've also seen this world map on the wall of our friend's son's room and I'd like to copy the idea too. Think its cool and reminds you there are still many places yet to be seen! Thanks for the link where I could get this, its been bookmarked ready to be purchased when we do up our study!
