A Ladies' Lunch

Pumpkin Bisque with hint of Curry

This beautifully catered lunch took place a few months back in the home of a good friend. I happened to have my camera with me and decided to document each course as it was served (except for the appetizers which were gone by the time I remembered I had my camera). Our host,  Crickette, is the epitome of style. She is always impeccably and stylishly dressed, and she entertains with effortless elegance.  Take a look at this wonderful lunch she had prepared for us in her home.

Greens with blue cheese, pine nuts, oranges, bacon bits with a balsamic vinaigrette

We each had a printed menu so we could pace ourselves for all the courses that were going to be served. I forgot to take pictures of the flowers and the table setting!

Mushroom Canneloni

This dish wasn't as rich as it looked. Note the artistic brush stroke of carrot puree on the plate.

Now for a little break in between--a delicious limoncello sorbet. At this point we all had enough to eat, but weren't done yet. Wait till you see what came next...

Baked Lobster

Taa-daaaah!!! A perfectly baked lobster with lemon butter sauce! This dish had a green spinach brush stroke. You don't really see it from this angle. All these plating techniques are very interesting. You might have noticed this was a no-meat lunch as one of our friends is a vegetarian.

Pavlova with fresh fruit

Then of course a sweet ending. I don't know how we ate all this food, but I know I finished mine, and Crickette did too, because even if she looks modelesque, she actually has a very healthy appetite.  It was a long leisurely lunch full of interesting updates and merriment that ended at 4 pm.

La Tasca "restaurant" catered the lunch. That's in quotation marks because La Tasca used to be a very popular Spanish restaurant in the 70's all the way to the 90's, but I don't think they operate a restaurant any longer. Now they just cater for weddings and special events--or very small intimate lunches for eight, just like this one we had. Thanks Crickette!
