A Cookbook Giveaway on My 100th Post!

To mark my blog's 100th post, I'm giving away the
Assumption HS79 Cookbook,
The PEARL Edition, to one lucky winner!

This cookbook is a compilation of 202 favorite recipes contributed by members of
Assumption College San Lorenzo High School class of 79.
All you have to do is leave a comment after this post!
Winner will be chosen by noon of Nov 15, Manila time.
That's less than a week!
The book will be mailed to you anywhere in the Philippines.
(okay, United States included too since I have a sil leaving next week and
she can probably hand carry one to the nearest US post office!)

Annie Lim Kawpeng and I came out with this book last year right before Christmas,
in celebration of our Pearl anniversary out of High School.
We're happy to say that it's been selling at bookstores quite briskly.

100% net proceeds of this book is donated to
Assumption Mission School projects.

And now this exciting news...

From November 6 to 24, 2010, Cafe Jeepney of the Hotel Intercontinental Manila
will feature recipes from our PEARL Cookbook in their lunch buffet!
How cool is that?!

Among the recipes featured on the first day were Cecilia Suarez's Intensity 5 Dip,
Rina Go's Molo Soup and San Choy Bau, Penne alla Vodka and Pancit Kawayan from yours truly,
Reunion Cheesecake from Aissa Cojuangco, Limoncello Tiramisu from Ina Ledesma, and many more.

Intercon of course had their famous Crepe Samurai and their ultra delicious
bread pudding made with croissants!
(hmm, we must get those recipes for our next book)

I must say it was a delicious buffet.

The Penne alla Vodka and Sugo di Pomodoro are made on the spot in the pasta bar area.

Print out this internet coupon below to get a discount on the lunch buffet.
The coupon rewards groups of 6 and 10--a perfect size for a small reunion or a family gathering!

The Pearl Edition is actually our second cookbook.
We came out with our very first cookbook in 2003,
in celebration of Silver Jubilee Homecoming (what we call our "Velada").

Newspaper columnist, magazine editor, and former classmate Joanne Rae Ramirez wrote
a brief history of this cookbook project in this article.

Our first book, published in 2003. We reprinted this 3 times, and it's now close to being out of print!

During the first cookbook launch in December 2003 with then President Gloria M. Arroyo

Then just last year, in celebration of our Pearl Anniversary, we came out with our second book.
It's this one pictured below, the source of many of the dishes of the ongoing Intercon lunch buffet,
and the giveaway of this post!

It was hot-off-the-press the first week of December 2009 with no time for a book launch,
so we marketed it by word of mouth.

This Cafe Jeepney promotion then can be considered our official book launch.
So even if it's one year late, at least it's 18-days long!

Our second book, The Pearl Edition, published in 2009.

The Pearl "Edition" is a misnomer because this is a brand new collection of 202 never-before-published
recipes, so we should've called it The Pearl "Collection" instead, and not just an "edition".
(Oh well..next book will just have to be called the "Jade Collection"!)

Therese Ng designed the book, her husband Erik Lacson took the cover shot
and classmate Lisa Mapua was our copy editor.
More shots from the Intercon buffet.
Dishes from the book are marked with a namecard with the Assumption plaid--can't miss it.

Rina Go's San Choy Bau

Cynthia Gonzalez's Jambalaya

This book is available at Fully Booked, Powerbooks and selected National Bookstores for P699,
but for a limited time only, it will be available at the Intercon at a discounted price of P599.

It's such a useful Christmas gift even for someone who has everything.
Why give a cake, when you can give 202 recipes (and they can make their own cake! haha)

Our first book launch featured a big pot-luck table. Fifty dishes were brought by recipe contributors
and was the centerpiece of the whole party!

HS79--friends I grew up with!

Do leave a comment and I'll do an automated random choice by Nov. 15.
Everyone welcome to join, even if you belong to HS79, and even if you have the cookbook.
As I said, it's a great gift!
(Husband and children of author, please give a chance to others!)

If I get more comments than the 10 I'm expecting from my loyal readers,
I will giveaway two books!

Hope to hear from you!

Oh, oh, I would love a copy! I live in New York and miss my Assumption days (HS Batch '98!). It would be lovely to be able to have something tangible from the good old alma mater... and maybe serve Jicama Salad or Jambalaya from Assumptionistas past to New York friends. =)

I loved the first cookbook! And congratulations on a great idea! My batch is still brainstorming on what we can do for our Velada (a few years from now). I gave birth 2009 so I didnt even know there was a Pearl Edition out. Heading to the bookstore first thing!

My nieces went to Assumption and we bought your first cookbook when I visited Manila a few years ago. I just saw Lisa Mapua post this in Facebook and I told her the first recipe I did was Adobo flakes and I think that was yours, Vicky! My daughters loved it!

It would be great to have the Favorites cookbook, and I live San Franicisco. By the way I think Dixie Puyat is your sister-in-law - she's a friend :))

I recently retired and having so much time in my hands, I promised my wife that I'll give her a break and do the cooking most of the time. I hope your cookbook will help me fulfill my promise to the 'Big Chief'. I want a cookbook that will be different from the run-of-the-mill ones that offer the usual recipes that tell you to add a pinch of this and a dash of that with fish sauce (patis) on the side. So please help me make my wife happy. As the old saying goes--A Happy Wife is a Happy Life! Thanks.

I use your cookbook all the time! I almost didn't buy it because of that misleading "Pearl Edition" title. I like the recipes in this 2nd cookbook even more than the first one! Nice.

Hi Ma'am Marivic, I'm new to this blog. I happened to know your blog through your comment in OAP. I would like to congratulate your Assumption batch for coming up with a second serving of more scrumptious recipes through this book. This book would be a great random gift for my mom who's passionate in cooking for our family. :)
